Scientists in China have developed the world's most powerful magnet, producing a magnetic field of 42.02 tesla—800,000 times stronger than Earth's. This surpasses the previous record of 41.4 tesla set in 2017. Created by the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, the magnet may facilitate breakthroughs in various scientific fields, including quantum phenomena and semiconductor development. However, its operation demands 32.3 megawatts of electricity, generating significant heat, necessitating careful management to prevent overheating.
