SpaceX has launched its 10,000th Starlink satellite, giving Elon Musk control of about two-thirds of all active satellites in orbit. Of roughly 12,955 active satellites, 8,562 belong to Starlink. SpaceX plans to expand to 42,000 satellites, though only 12,000 are approved so far. Each Starlink lasts about five years before burning up on reentry, with up to five deorbiting daily by 2025. Experts warn these burn-ups may release pollutants that could harm the atmosphere, though the impact remains uncertain.
