Exclusive: North Korean hackers sent stolen crypto to wallet used by Asian payment firm

Huione Pay, a Cambodian payments firm, received over $150,000 in crypto from a wallet associated with North Korean hackers, Lazarus, between June 2023 and February 2024. The funds were traced to a wallet used in phishing attacks on crypto firms. Huione Pay stated it was unaware of the funds' origin due to intermediary transactions. Despite lacking control over external wallets, blockchain tools can help identify and mitigate risks. The National Bank of Cambodia prohibits local payments firms from dealing with cryptocurrencies due to volatility and financial crime risks.
