Google warned Gmail users of attacks by hacker group ShinyHunters, linked to a Salesforce breach exposing Google accounts. Hackers used social engineering, impersonating IT staff, leading to successful intrusions via stolen passwords. Though exposed data was mostly public business info, it’s being used for extortion and possible data leaks. Google urges users to update passwords, enable 2FA, and stay alert; impacted users were notified on Aug 8.
