Glacial earthquakes occur when large icebergs break off from glaciers and collide with the main ice mass, generating seismic waves. Unlike typical quakes, they produce no high-frequency waves, making them harder to detect. While previously rare in Antarctica, a study has now identified hundreds between 2010 and 2023, mainly at the Thwaites Glacier, raising concerns due to its potential impact on sea levels.
