The James Webb Space Telescope has tracked asteroid 2024 YR4, ruling out an Earth impact but raising the moon impact odds to 4.3% for Dec. 22, 2032. The building-sized asteroid could create a new lunar crater but poses no threat to Earth. More data is expected when it returns in 2028. Some scientists see a moon impact as a rare chance to study crater formation from a known object.
