OpenAI has launched GPT-OSS, its first open-weight model in over six years, available for free under the Apache 2.0 license. It comes in 120B- and 20B-parameter versions, matching o4-mini and o3-mini performance, and can run on a single GPU or 16GB VRAM. Usable via Hugging Face, Azure, AWS, and more, it supports reasoning, coding, and web browsing. OpenAI says it’s the company’s most safety-tested model, vetted by external firms for cybersecurity and biosecurity risks.
