Genomic studies using AI show Papua New Guineans are closely related to Asian populations, descending from the same ‘Out of Africa’ migration. Unique physical traits likely arose from adaptation to tropical climates, while interbreeding with Denisovans shaped their distinct ancestry. A population bottleneck and isolation preserved this diversity. Their origins remain partly unresolved, but they appear to be a sister group to other Asians rather than a separate early migration lineage.
