A global study of over 14.8 million people in Taiwan, Denmark, and Sweden finds that individuals with psychiatric disorders are more likely to marry partners who share the same or another mental health condition. The pattern persists across cultures, generations, and decades, except for OCD, bipolar disorder, and anorexia. Possible explanations include mutual understanding, shared environments, or limited spouse choice due to stigma, with convergence potentially triggering new diagnoses in previously unaffected partners.
